What we collect and why

  • Analytics, only if you accept cookies. If you press Accept in the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used: the pages you view, how you arrived, your device and browser type, and your approximate location (city or country), which Google derives from your IP address without storing it. We use this to see what people read and to improve the site. Google signals and ad personalisation are switched off, and nothing is used for advertising. If you reject, Google Analytics is never loaded.
  • Cookie-free statistics. Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights count visits and measure how fast pages load, without cookies or any storage on your device. They don't identify you, and the results are aggregated.
  • Server logs. Our host, Vercel, processes the technical data needed to deliver the site and keep it secure — such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested — in short-lived logs.
  • If you join the mailing list. We collect the email address you enter in “Join the House” and use it to send news about releases, events and the label. We first email you a link to confirm; until you click it, you aren't added. Our emails can tell us whether they were opened and which links were clicked, so we know what's useful. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
  • If you email us. We receive your email address and whatever you choose to tell us, and use it only to reply.
  • Videos. Videos on the Watch and News pages are YouTube videos in its privacy-enhanced mode. Nothing loads from YouTube's player until you press play; when you do, YouTube (Google) receives data such as your IP address and may store cookies or similar on your device under its own privacy policy. Video thumbnails come from YouTube's image servers, which see your IP address as any image request does.
  • Images and media are delivered through content delivery networks, including DatoCMS's, which receive your IP address in order to send the files.

Our legal bases

  • Consent for Google Analytics. You can withdraw it at any time: .
  • Consent for the mailing list, given when you confirm your sign-up. Withdraw it any time with the unsubscribe link in any email, or by writing to us.
  • Legitimate interests to run, secure and improve the site (hosting, server logs, cookie-free statistics) and to reply to messages you send us. We have weighed these against your rights; they involve minimal data.

Who we share it with

Only service providers working for us: Google (Google Analytics, and only with your consent), Vercel (hosting and cookie-free analytics), DatoCMS (content and media delivery) and Brevo (our mailing list, if you join it) — plus YouTube when you play a video. We don't sell personal data, and we don't share it for advertising. We may disclose data where the law requires it.

International transfers

Google and Vercel may process data in the United States. Where data leaves the UK, it is protected by the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum. Brevo stores mailing-list data in the European Union, which UK law recognises as giving adequate protection.

How long we keep it

  • Google Analytics data: 14 months, then deleted automatically.
  • Server logs: kept by Vercel for a short period, for security and operation.
  • Mailing list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
  • Emails: as long as we need to deal with your message.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • correct it if it is wrong;
  • delete it;
  • restrict how we use it, or object to our using it;
  • give it to you, or another organisation, in a portable format.

You can withdraw consent at any time; it doesn't affect anything done before. Email info@southernfriedrecords.com and we will reply within one month.

You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113 — though we would appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Children

This site isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Other websites

We link to other sites — Instagram, Bandcamp, SoundCloud, YouTube and more. They have their own privacy policies, which apply once you leave this one.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If we change how we use cookies, we'll ask for your consent again. Our cookie policy lists every cookie in detail.

We'd like to use Google Analytics cookies to see how the site is used. That's all — no advertising. Cookie policy
